Grantors
We couldn’t do our work without local, regional, and national foundational support. We would like to thank each of the granting organizations below for their belief in and support of our programs and mission.
Humanities TExas
Inside Literature’s Distance Learning Initiative and Author Talk Series were made possible in part with a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Our Distance Learning Initiative was developed in response to the challenges presented by COVID-19. It has four unique programs: synchronous online courses using Microsoft Teams, asynchronous videos about a singular topic (akin to TED talks), structured workbooks to guide students through various texts and writing prompts, and a community learning program.
For the first installment of our Author Talk Series, Inside Literature has invited author Victoria Redel to come to the Travis County Correctional Complex to discuss her novel Loverboy with students studying it in class, as well as to give a talk to a larger audience about being a writer and the writing process with time for a Q&A session. This talk has been postponed due to COVID-19 but will be made available on our YouTube page once it has been rescheduled.
City of Austin Equity Office
Inside Literature was awarded an Equity mini-grant from the city of Austin to expand our distance learning initiative. Our goal is to foster community ties, critical engagement, and personal growth among Latinx inmates in the TCCC. We plan to achieve this by providing Latinx students with courses in Beginner's Business ESL, Spanish Literature, and Spanish Writing and Rhetoric. We intend to reach members of the community through our Virtual Family and Friends Book Clubs. We will make our “Talk with an Expert” video series available to the population at the TCCC, and we will also share the videos with members of the community through our public YouTube page.
Literary Arts Emergency Fund
Inside Literature is humbled to be among the organizations chosen by Literary Hub for a grant through their The Literary Arts Emergency Fund!
Many education programs in jails and prisons have come to a grinding halt without the resources or protocol in place to accommodate the technology necessary for distance learning.
The $5k we received from Literary Hub will sustain our efforts to provide our students with quality learning materials and socially-distanced classroom opportunities. Thank you, Literary Hub!
Sustaining Donors
We would like to extend a special thank you to our sustaining donors for their continuing generosity and support, which is essential to the success of our program.
